About Us
Citizens Protecting Resources is a Washington State non-profit
corporation. We are your neighbors. We live in the Yakima Valley
and raise our families here. We go to work every day, we are business
owners, farmers, agri-tourism and wine industry proponents, and
interested citizens that are invested in the Yakima Valley. We
are taxpayers that are concerned about the future of the Yakima
Valley.
We are devoting our time, energy and money to fight what we believe
is a despoliation of the Yakima Valley at taxpayer's expense.
We are dedicated to the proposition that life can and should be
better here; that we have a bright future that deserves foresight
and planning from our elected officials. We believe that officials
should give thoughtful consideration to input citizens provide
regarding County projects and plans. We believe that we can and
should do better.
We have discovered that the relocation of the Douglas
Automobile Wrecking Facility is a well-intentioned project gone
bad.
The project will cost at least $800,000 of public money, benefiting
only a few people, but paid for by all taxpayers. Moreover, the
junkyard move endangers the aquifer for all neighbors, spoils
the Donald "neighborhood", and sacrifices future tourism
and economic development opportunities at the "headwaters"
of the Lower Yakima Valley in order to satiate the desire of the
Yakima County Commissioners to move a private business and make
it a prototype for the future relocation of other junkyards.
We believe that County officials are right to move the Douglas
wrecking yard off the island in the Yakima River, but they are
moving it to the wrong location and they are doing it in the wrong
way. It's just that simple.
